How can people not tell that they are 10,000 pounds overweight?? Does your truck not have a suspension gauge?? Do your ears and but meter not register that hey this feels heavier from normal when taking off from a stop light?? I go from haulling loads from 48,000 (85,000 gross) to haulling 62,000 pound loads (105,500 gross) and can tell when Ive loaded 2,000 pounds over what I wanted just by the way the truck sounds/feels leaving stop lights and what not.

I would have a hard time telling the dif between 80 and 90,000 pounds just by feel or sound on any of my trucks, even my old B model, especially on flat terrain.

Yet in a previous post you said 48k. Which is it?
And any load that heavy should be scaled at a CAT scale, or other certified scale, before venturing out.

You were sloppy, and that overweight is on you.

I can. Just need to spend enough time at 80K in order to uncover a 90K and particularly beyond 100K. Anything above 140K your tractor is basically breaking under you. Ive totaled two so far at or beyond those grotesque weights.

I used to be able to pick up how much fuel is in those tanks within 500 pounds. Make a mental bet where the fuel gauge would be at and see if it is At.

It does not always happen, twice they loaded a 52000 pound coil onto a covered wagon making me 80000 but that was not a good 80000. Not with mr Tippy 8 and half feet high and 24 long up there.

I always cat. You would be surprised where that truck is sometimes.

One type of scales i do not like at all is the portables, the last one was at Raton old off US 287 they ran me down just before hitting 25 north and put me on those #### things. I was legal but barely on this wheel or that wheel or whatever. picky picky picky.

You would think the trucking companies can buy a set to go with a 150,000 dollar tractor and chuck em somewhere when done.

Welcome to MY world. Hauling rail cans, it was a daily thing. Not to be rude, but overweight is 100% your baby. You HAVE to catch it before you leave. I know, some loading places are in the middle of nowhere with no scale, but sometimes, a little math as they are loading it will tell you if you are overweight, especially 10K pounds for sure, anyway. These places will try to sneak by whatever they can to save money on shipping, it's your responsibility to catch it. Sorry, you cut your own throat here. Like others said, before you sign the bill, you have the right to demand a weight, or they can pull it off.

now maybe it is my old age catching up with me or my failure at mind reading school but what are you talking about?

Ok I got the broker part, but isn't it wise that you check the bol and add up the weigt, then get it on a scale and if it is off, bring it back?

I Have only been at it for around 45 years, and my biggest loads to date have grossed 245,000, so I guess I will just keep trying and maybe some day I will get the hang of it.
I also have not learned to total a truck, can't imagine what I have been doing wrong.
You have been around much longer than I have though, I know because in my lifetime 287 never even came close to raton. lol

Your truck, your trailer? $50 worth of air gauges will let you know when your over weight.
