I'm currently in the Army and would like to be a company driver when I get out 7 months from now. I called C.R. England because I discovered that they train and hire former military. I wanted to know if this is a recommended company to start working for as an inexperienced driver or should I look elsewhere?
Thank You
Is C.R. England a good company to start out with?

Oh wow, okay, thanks! Would it be more advisable to get my CDL at a community college and then start looking? Or should I look for another company that will send me to school?

dude... there are tons of military friendly companies out there, and worst case scenario you could use your MGIB and get your own training. Most people will strongly suggest you don't go with a company's training because you're stuck with them for a certain period of time. dont see that 'military friendly' icon/sticker to mean anything. but you wanted opinions.... HELL NO lol

Certain period of time as Blue02celi mentioned would be a yr contract or have to pay so much back if you quit before your yr is up.One should stay a yr to get the exp and find better companies. If you quit much less then that you'll be jumping from one company to another with the same issues. If you choose a college to get your training then you can pick and choose what company and the company will reimburse you f they honor the school you attended with strings attached. They pay you so much every I think 3 or 4 months.

Community college would be the best route. Meanwhile study the "CDL Practice Tests" at top of this page; they are the same questions you will have at the DMV for your CDL. Get a passport and TWIC. Get all the endorsements; tanker/hazmat, doubles/triples. With all this completed before graduation you will be able to land a top paying job with a good carrier. This can mean the difference between a first year pay of around $28K-$30K without all the endorsements/passport/TWIC or $50K-$65K with all the endorsements/passport/TWIC..

Use your GI Bill funding to go to any private school in your area. There is a forum for trucking schools on here that you can get some good recommendations for schools in your area. If you get your CDL on your own through a private school then you are open to applying with any trucking company that will hire new drivers. There are many companies that will hire new drivers but do not offer training for your CDL, so thats what I would suggest since that is what I am doing. Start classes Nov 11th and cant wait to get started. Still don't know who I want to drive for, but I know I am not locked into one company.
Tonythetruckerdude and blairandgretchen Thank this.
