Is changing lanes approaching on-ramps a good habit?

If I can Cruise in the center lane without jamming traffic up or slowing anyone down really I'll try to stay there to avoid the people merging.

But you can't hang in the center lane if you're slowing traffic down and a whole bunch of people including trucks are passing you on the right.

When I know my exit is coming up next when I pass the last exit I'll use that space between that exit and where I'm going to to safely get over.

No you misread, the guy merging got the ticket for failure to yield. Sorry for the mix up if I wasn't clear.

I’m confused how he lost his job. He had no legal responsibility to get over, correct? Isn’t that what we are discussing, legal and moral responsibility to get over for a merging vehicle?
There are several threads in this subject, it’s always going to be a talking point.
My opinion is that if I get over to let in merging traffic, I am teaching that driver the wrong lesson, and that will bite all of us. I’m not wanting to be a jerk, and otherwise I consider myself a thoughtful driver. But moving over for lollygagging mergers sets up too many negatives.

The insurance company paid out even though the merging car got a ticket and was in the wrong. It was at the start of these leech ambulance chasers going after trucks for easy money. But, the insurance company figured since my pal wanted to be a jerk, they weren't going to allow him to be covered. His company didn't have a choice but to fire him.
In case you were wondering, yes he told too much truth to everyone involved. He let them know that he didn't have to let that guy over and could have.

Merging traffic does not have the right of way! If more people would learn to drive properly by following that rule, then there would be less of these types of issues. Yes, you should allow merging if you can safely do so, but if you can't safely get over to let someone merge, then it is their responsibility to slow down, speed up, or even stop until they can find an opening. There is no excuse for their stupidity...

If I have a clear lane to the left, I get my foot off of the floor and let the "merger" have the right lane. Be it 4,6,8,10,16,18 wheels. I am not in that big of a hurry. As noted in your original post...... If it is snowing, raining, foggy, or even sunny AF...... and you haven't been taken off guard by the "merger" let them in.....right or wrong. To "run them off into the snow just makes you a douchebag of the nth degree. I must let at least 10-20 faster Trucks/ Cars pass me in a 10-11 hour drive shift. It MIGHT cost me 10 minutes on my clock for the day. Here is an idea.......just be EFFING courteous on the road. SMH

I disagree, nasty roads I'm not moving into the crap lane because they are ignorant. I'm more likely to lose traction/jack knife and be responsible for an accident when crossing into the unplowed area, but if they're too stupid to merge and hit me I have cameras. 1 accident I'm at fault, the other they're at fault.
