I'd consider the career choices in 2 [or 3] steps ... 1st is the "new driver, gain experience level", 2nd is where do I want to try and begin stage 2 of my career with ______ in mind. It's highly unlikely your starter company will be where you end up in a true team operation in subsequent stages. The only exception may be Schneider.
The best team freight is with the small operators such as Van Erden and other similar [smaller] trucking companies who haul literally coast to coast, almost exclusively, but don't train or even hire with less then 2 recent years. These days, 2,300+ mile loads are almost always relegated to produce runs, the rest is on the train the produce haulers just passed.blairandgretchen and creepybiscuit Thank this. -
If you decide to go solo, look at Burkhart Enterprises in Knoxville.

A few of those I checked on appealing.. Burkart and Ken....wanted exprience. CTL sounded good, I wanted to have a pet policy... they don't...same with Schneider.... Watkins requires leaving truck at terminal in Dalton Ga.. I live in Knoxville 121mi. away...Their set range is 125mi.

Yes, there are trucking companies who have ample freight (and longer then average) that might seem like a good fit for a team operation, but many of the appointments today are set by the shipper (especially in the meat hauler segment), and the shipper will assume solo operation, except in special circumstances. Point is, even companies with ample freight might not be good for a true team operation, where 2 separate bread winners are involved. The ideal team setup in a NON coast-to-coast operation are husband/wife teams who can share the revenue good weeks, bad weeks, and mediocre weeks that are inevitable in anything other then exclusive coast-to-coast operation.
Ask the CRST "team drivers", they'll verify thiswd40 Thanks this. -
You and your buddy want to team, so start a list of companies you're interested in. Look at where they run; do you want lots of West Coast runs or just stay Eastern half of the USA? The companies websites should have information as to the running areas. Sometimes a new driver will sign on with a company thinking they will see the USA, then discover the company keeps them in the Northeast or just on the Eastern seaboard. My preference was coast-to-coast & border-to-border, but that's not for everyone.
