I have another question. Is this career field family friendly? Or would the job entail such and such hours that would keep one away from the family?
Is diesel mechanic a good profession to join? Age 30.....?

ALL mechanics Ive seen have babies somewhere at home.
I actually have some state vocational training which evolved into self tuning of points based small block engines and other things related to them of the early 70's era muscle cars. I might have gone into rebuilding engines which was my core taught. I did three engines in state school. Two ran. One was excessively worn and out of spec too far to maintain compression. (Pistons slapped back and forth about half a inch into the block.) -
Odd shifts should always receive extra compensation opposed to the 8 to 5. A bonus is the industry almost never makes 2nd or 3rd shifters work weekends. If they do...look elsewhere cuz something is wrong with management.BoxCarKidd and spsauerland Thank this. -
I don't think I've ever worked Mon-Fri in this job. Worked every other shift you could dream up. 10x4, 14x7, 14x14, 7x7, 18x3. All 12-14 hour days.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I usually speak with my two mechanics early monday before I load them with more work. I accomodate their needs when possible. So they do not get tired and lose motivation to go do good work.
