As a one man dog & pony show, I've found it difficult and nearly impossible to secure anything that resembles contract freight.

I don't have any capacity to offer...

Besides, I would be a disservice to any shipper under contract, when on a whim I just don't feel like working or take a cpl of mos off during winter.

So I'm dependent on fending for myself on the spot market.

As close as I've gotten to contract freight consistency is when I get my foot in the door with decent brokers who feed me work for a decent rate.

Even then, that ebbs and flows. So, I just ride the waves as they come. Sometimes I'm hanging 10, other times I'm kicking back at home taking it easy ;-)

What kind of trailer do you need for that? And how often do large aquatic creatures need to be hauled from one place to another, especially now that most zoos and aquatic parks have done away with keeping such creatures in captivity?

I'll tell you how. You get out of the more miles = more money mentality that the companies have instilled in most drivers. More miles = more work. What you want is LESS miles for MORE money. Find a job that gives you that.

For example, my last company job I was grossing around $1900 / week on average, on 1500 miles or less. Work was Monday - Friday, day shift, one layover on Thursday night.

    I didn't chase miles.

We are in the longest expansion in history. But you don't keep rolling 7's forever. It's not how a economy works. A recession is coming. It's baked in the cake.

Well this keeps popping up with drivers, but fleets are not seeing too much of a slow down.

What many miss is maybe we need to get into a deep recession in this industry to shake off the crap and push the rates back up to where they should be. We just have too much capacity and it is not going down >>>> the failure levels haven't risen to where they need to be with all these people getting their trucks last year so capacity hasn't gone down.
