Hi I currently work at Schneider and have been here for about a month now and have noticed that I spend ALOT of time on hold with operations. It wouldnt be so bad but I have a tracphone and pay by the minute, this hold time is costing me big time. I was going to get a regular phone plan but I really dont use a phone alot except for work. So does anyone out there have a phone just for work and is it worth it for the write off at the end of the year? I could get another tracfone for work only as I do like them they have the most coverage. Thanks for your input John
Is getting a cell phone for company use worth it?

Get a 45$ a month phone from walmart, problem solved.
Unlimited talk/text, and some data in case you want to look at google maps. Not having a smart phone for this job is a little ridiculous, it offers so much valuable data I don't see why anyone would have anything less than a basic smartphone with at least 2 gigs of data.MrEd Thanks this. -
...If you want a phone for company use they should provide it to you. Don't buy a phone so you can talk to them. If they put you on hold that much sounds like they don't care..Leave them in the dust

I agree,I say send them a freeform message on the QUALCOMM.

You can now get a plan with unlimited minutes for $20 per month. Quiting a company just because they dont provide you a cellphone is a ridicolous advise. He should be caring a smartphone with data anywayspaul_4lp Thanks this.

Wow!! It's 2015 going on '16. With the way the world moves not having a smartphone from a good carrier can leave one at a serious disadvantage. Emergency and business phone calls are obvious. Weather reports, traffic info, google for locating shippers and receivers, banking, current events ,etc. I have used tools to do my job since I began working and always found having as many tools as possible to do the job makes the job easier and safer. Sure it's expensive but if you can't afford it you need to check what other drivers are doing and for whom. Watching football through a tether right now. Tools can be used for fun, too.

Or the old fashioned way...

Just curious, how much time is ALOT?
The world has changed, pay phones are getting hard to find and cell phone plans are cheap. I don't think too many companies provide one for drivers. It's worth using a few of my minutes for calling shippers for directions, customs brokers to check on clearance and the occasional call to the company instead of the QUALCOMM.
Spending ALOT of time on hold wouldn't sit well though. If I'm calling it's because I need to talk to someone now.
I'm guessing that's one of the realities with the mega's though.HorseShoe Thanks this. -
takes about the same amount of time to hear anything back。maybe smoke signals might be faster。Straight Stacks and HorseShoe Thank this.

Quiting the company because they won't answer the phone is what it reads. Don't be offended77smartin Thanks this.
