Have you heard anything about a pay increase, 5wire? Glad to see you still like it. Are they still using paper logs or is it electronic now? Thanks 5wire.

I got the regular raises on the schedule. 6 and 9 month. My log is paper some of the folks have electronic logs. Wouldn't make much difference to me. My biggest issue is slow loaders. If they take an hour that's typical. If they take 2 they are eating your lunch. At three hours they are taking all the break time in a 14 hour rule. Any more than that it's costing miles and that is your paycheck. It's best to be professional and friendly with people who move the load in and out of the trailer. Pays dividends in the long run.
ozzspeed and MD STEELERS FAN Thank this. -
After 25 years in 82nd Airborne I retired went to truck driving school and HOW was my first company. Was treated will got the miles and home time I needed. This was back in 02 but I would have stayed had I not got recalled for Iraq.

I started school 9-7-10 and the first thing i did was sat down in class and in walked a recruiter from HOW. Sounds like a really decent place to work for starting out and possibly for long term as the bonus's get better along with pay. Insurance is BCBS and get it the 1st day after 60 days with them. No idle time rule long as you are sane about it. Their home time sounds really great in the ky area as they run thru here regularly. Im really leaning towards them. Iv researched a ton of companys in the past 3 months as i was waiting to get into school and HOW is soundin good. Got 3 wks left of school so we shall see as im sure other recruiters will make their outfit sound pretty good as well.. Jus my 2 cents!

just got off the phone with one of the recruiters there. i was recommended to them by one of their drivers, he was telling me they needed 40 drivers out of the east coast. got my app all in now just waiting to hear some news. if i don't get a call by Friday i figure ill call them back. everything sounded good when i spoke to the driver and the recruiter. both of their story's about the home time and miles and what not all matched up however, you never know till your actually out there doing it.

I have just finished my 10th month and first 100,000 miles with HOW. Run hard and reset at home almost every week. Have to say that I have only had to reset on the road 3 times since hire in November '09. The orientation and driver trainer requirements are minimal and the company does a good job to make you feel like you are part of the team. A good driving record goes a long way here. Even if your new to OTR.

H.O is looking like the best place to start as of now will be done with school 10/08/10 there main is close to home like 15 miles close. So i get all the info about them from ppl here went and drove by the yard looks well kept and the trucks looked clean just hopping it all works out will be seeing Gary at school this week to hand a copy of the my med card and them wait to see if they want me
-
Your timing is pretty good. I know we had a million mile club driver retire a week or so ago. You get to do a physical as part of orientation so a new med card is part of that. Never met Gary in person. Talked with him on the phone a few times. Close to the yard is a plus. You won't have to find a place to park near home.
