when you discuss the accident with your company, no it was defiantly not avoidable. There was a lot of traffic, and if you were to swerve to avoid it, you would have hit another vehicle in other lane potentially causing a fatality. That could have brought the company down so you are definitely in the clear and you may get a raise and an award at the Christmas party this year. Kudos to you sir for your quick thinking

These kind of things are a lot easier to avoid than you think. Basically its just keeping your eyes alert. As you get more experience driving a truck you will start adapting to looking high and wide instead of just focusing on the road directly in front of you. Technically yes, otr wad preventable, but unless you are doing this often i wouldn't give ya any grief over it if you drove for me. Heck i ripped off my od light just a couple months back when i was down in the keys doing fema work. Sometimes we just ain't perfect.

I once knocked out the yellow beacon light on the top back of my truck with a tree limb. My email to the office said: The Yellow Beacon light had a close encounter of the fourth kind with a tree limb.

Exactly. If I would have swerved into the other lane, I could have struck a vehicle. It was a one lane road.
I sure hope they take that into consideration.

If not and they hit me with a preventable, I'm quitting this company.

Because no one like spending money they don't have to. A good quality od light is 600 bucks. I was not happy at myself for ripping it off on a power line. Just like Blair was cussing himself for his damage.
