I’m 480 miles from the customer and my appointment is for tomorrow at 7 am. In order to get a 10 hour break and still make my appointment time, I have to stop at 8 pm tonight within 10 miles of the customer. My ETA is closer to 9 pm. There’s a truck stop 1 mile down the street from the customer. 10 hours after 9 is 7 am, which is my appointment time. I then will have to do my 15 min pretrip, that’s 7:15 am before I can roll. Can I just log out of my ELD and drive to the customer so I can get there on time then go on duty once my 10 is up? I ask this because when I put my truck in the shop and log out, when I log back in I’m able to reject the driving the mechanics who worked on my truck did. I know this is a violation but I won’t be getting pulled over by DOT within that 1 mile to the customer. I don’t need any wannabe DOT officers, I just wanna know if this is a thing to do.
Is it a big deal if I log out of my ELD and drive a few miles to avoid an HOS violation?

No, no, no... All you're doing is violating a rule to prevent violating a rule. Do Not start your route until your 10 is up. Legally.
You're gonna be late.firemedic2816, Sirscrapntruckalot, Kyle G. and 3 others Thank this. -
What good will it do? Like you said once you plug it back in it will want you to accept the drive time. If you don't accept it, who will you say drove the truck? Also L.E.O. can see how often you disconnect the ELD. They're not dumb, they know all the low hanging fruit tricks.

Legally no , lots of if's involved . If you do be careful and cover your ### . Moving without logged in can cause bigger issues if something happens .

Or just cal the reciver , tell the shipping manager or clerk and work it out to a 7:30 / 7:45 time frame , especially if you are within that distance .or park at there yard / lot if possible.

Just perhaps...there might be a sudden adverse weather situation this evening. That's going to allow you to drive up to an additional 2 hours, extending your 11 up to 13 and your 14 up to 16. That would allow you to get to the customer tonight...
Not that this has ever happened to me...Iamoverit, Kyle G., RockinChair and 2 others Thank this. -

Sorry but no. You can try to rationalize this all you want but it aint happening. Also sounds like you have a verizon ELD seeing as mine does the same #### thing. They will know. Ive had them question me on rejected time before and i had to provide recipts showing it was in the shop at that time to avoid a ELD violation. And id assume any other ELD does the same thing.
I get the not wanting to waste a bunch of time i really really do. But legally speaking there is no way to do that without violateing the law. Im not your dad and you can do what you want sure. But id advise just doing a split sleeper and eating the couple hours if you wish to remain legal.Grumppy, Kyle G., Lav-25 and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you can just shut down now and do your ten roll all night to the delivery. If you run out of hours at the delivery just PC to the close truck stop. You can burn more miles and make better time driving at night.
Be safe, no delivery is worth taking risks under stress of being late. Those are the times when you miss seeing the chevette in your blind changing lanesBud A., xzmpt, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this.
