I tried to talk him out of it, but he says he'd rather take the hit on his DEC than to have to hitch-hike from Ohio down to Texas where his new job is located. Like I said, he's a crusty old fart. So, he'll take a load and deliver it then drive to the terminal near his new job and check the truck in with the terminal manager there. He has done 38 years on the road, 7 with these guys, has made him rather defiant.

Technically I don't think they can hit him with abandonment since its empty and being left at a working terminal.
But Will possibly be hit with a large relocation fee.

FYI, Every post you make on this thread is going to sound more and more pathetic. For example, old and crusty with 7 years on a job and YET can't finance a trip from Ohio to Texas. That's like a girl saying she ended up pregnant because her boyfriend couldn't afford condoms. Stoo before you turn even the bleeding hearts against you.

Yep. On a dedicated account they matched a competing offer I had. Other company had APU and inverter though. Went with the evil I know though.

Triple 6: That's actually a really good analogy with him. His "bad luck" just never seems to be his fault, to hear him tell it. Decisions like this is undoubtedly why he is always behind the 8-ball. But, with this info, I can pass it along to him. Another comment mentioned that he could be charged a relocation fee. That's a really good point. Maybe it will make a difference to him. He'd be better off selling something if he needs to get money to buy a bus ticket, rather than being on the hook for a relocation fee.

Best policy is to ask the company. It's not a good idea to leave on a bad note. You never know if you may need them again.

This is true unless it's a bridge you don't want to make the mistake of crossing again.lol
But it couldn't of been that bad imo or he would of been gone long before 7yrs .

    You're trying to fix Stupid.

For some reason, Stupid needs an audience. He can't quietly be Stupid. So Stupid calls you and tells you that he's about to do something stupid. And you try to reason with him and he never listens (then again, if he could listen, he couldn't be Stupid). Anyways, the only thing that comes from this is you get frustrated and pull your hair out. It's sort of like a woman asking you if those jeans make her look fat. Why do they ask a question to an answer that they don't want to hear? I had someone say to me, "There's no winning, just various degrees of losing." I said to him, "The only way you lose is if you play the game. The best way to play the game is don't play."

    Try this instead:

Next time Stupid comes to you with a stupid plan to spread stupidity among the masses, give him a thumbs up and say, "Sounds like a plan!"

If a grown man thinks that chitting his pants is a good idea, who am I to tell him otherwise?

Your buddy needs to ask the company what their policy is.
