^^^^^ Then, git'r'done, man. I kinda got "grandfathered" in, but took a "refresher" course in 03 for FedEx. I used to own my own trash hauling company, and had the A just in case. And hazmat, of course, LoL.
I went to work in the telecom / IT industry somewhere in between, for many years as well. We all know THAT went South. (or wait....India is East, but you get my point.)
Don't let anyone do this~ :
Shock Therapy Thanks this. -
Especially when you just start.
It's a lot of BS.
Especially when you just start.
Now is a good time of year to learn. You'll get a bit of winter experience ( if you don't wait too long ), and we are coming into the busy season for OTR work.
If you like camping, you will love trucking.
My best advise to you is try not to have things that require a lot of your attention ( PROBLEMS ) at home, before you try this. Because you can't do jack about them when your out on the road, and I've seen many a man eaten alive by problems at home.
Don't try and go too fast as far as wanting to be on your own Billy Big Rigger. Smooth is fast.
Don't ever give a dang about what anyone thinks of you. If it takes you an hour to park the truck, and your in and out of it 25 times, you did an outstanding job, as long as you didn't hit anything.
Most Important--There is God. And He watches over us. Unfortunately He lets Satan handle the dispatchers and people in operations.yumptin, Shock Therapy, Velli and 4 others Thank this. -
ps: Trucking is only hard as you make it. Or the 4-wheelers and construction zones make it for ya. Look at that awesome backing job I linked you to. It's do-able. Just don't get "over-confident" even when you get "good." This is one industry that you just don't really want a HUGE comfort zone in!
Go look at some of the flatbedders threads. I'm over 50 and they STILL amaze and awe me.
Always something more to learn out here; keep an open mind and your head on a swivel. You'll be fine.Shock Therapy, MondoburgerHD, born&raisedintheusa and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes, as soon as you fail to do the very basic things you learn at the get go, you will F yourself.
It's all about fundamentals, and doing them every time.
I'm a pretty good backer upper. Had one awhile back had to back around some dude that was Joe 270" wheel base Peterbilt. 0100 in the morning. Raining. Dark. I was in and out of my truck at least 10 times. Really nice Volvo on the other side. Missed Joe by about 4 inches. The guy in the Volvo is going " You got plenty over here! " If you call about a foot plenty I guess lol.
Just always take your time, and be sure, no matter how long it takes. Your better off asking for a different door if needed, before having an accident.Shock Therapy and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
Better to get out and look like a fool than it is to hit another and prove it..
yumptin, TripleSix, Shock Therapy and 2 others Thank this. -
