Sorry. I make things work and think outside the box. Thinking really is a terrible thing isnt it?

If it was heavy it would stress the hell out of the springs and possibly break them. in that case i wouldnt pull it.

Otherwise I would get the job done if it could be done safely. jerry rigged or not. Dodge the scales and dont drive like a nut.

He did not ask how to fix it. He did fix it. He was asking a " what if" question.

most air rides i have had use 1 spring connecting to each bag. if the bags are deflated that 1 spring will probly take a beating from a heavy load. Your container chassis may or may not be set up like that. A pic of the suspension would be worth a million words here

Some have springs with air bags also and are often labeled "air ride assist". Most newer trailers are just air ride.

What if my finger was cut off. would it be legal to tell my kid to pull my finger if it wasnt there?

I myself would steal a finger from mr potato head and jerry rig it. How many csa points would i get if mr potato heads finger was not dot approved?

Not a container chassis, a real trailer. But it was one of our oldest trailers....

The first ones with air release tandems.

I would assume the DOT does not concern themselves with the load weight. Only the regs... Not like they would let it slide if it was a 25K load as opposed to a 45K.

While you would likely beat the scheizer out of the load... I Don't think it is illegal. I headed to thenCheasapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel recently when coming off home time. We have two size trailers, 13'6" and 13'7"... of course the clearance there is 13'6" and I had a 13'7" trailer. (I was off ten days and forgot all about that little detail). Anyway I set off the alarm at the toll booth so a Police officer there had to climb the ladder and watche go through the feeler gauges In was too high, he asked if I could deflate the bags, I undid the a, it passed and he had me sign a form acknowledging I was to make no further adjustments until In was off the other side.

I don't think he would have allowed me to do that if it was illegal.

    Mikeee,i would say NOT legal.
And even if no DOT or COP says anything about it,i still would NOT drive it like that.
    Why you may ask?
The brakes are adjusted in relation to the airpressure in the bags.
So if the trailer is not properly inflated your brakes are not working the right way.(they may not brake enough or lock up to quick)
As with everything you do on the road, once you get into a accident, you just gave the lawyers all the ammunition they need to convict you.

    Hope this helps.:biggrin_25525:
