Not sure if it's illegal or not but if you had to pay for the cost to repair a door/track where that was done often with, you probably wouldn't do it. It's probably legal to drive like that but if there is an issue with the door not rolling up/down well, then it needs to get fixed. The track suspension fasteners (and the rollers) in the roof of the trailer is not designed or intended to support the door's weight while bouncing down rough roads and across rough RR tracks.

Would partially depend on what the cargo was? If it was improperly secured and had a chance to come out the back ( I am thinking nursery / bakery racks / bales of anything ) - if you get cited for improperly secured cargo with a dry van....let's just say I wouldn't want to have to explain how that happened especially if the reason is because you do not feel like pulling the door shut.
