Is it just me or are young adults under the age of 25 just plain lazy?

I mean school is kinda a waste. I have a chemical engineering degree and I was talking with plant staff and I make 25k more than a senior engineer who was this lady’s husband. I’m 26. If I can get in, I’ll be making 200k in a construction trade by my early 30’s. It is basically impossible to hit that income in white collar.

I know many folks grossing $150k+ working in the mines as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, welders etc. A lot of them are under 30.

Yeah I don’t jump up and run after my 10 is over either.

No one else gets in a #### hurry so why should I? I also don’t run at my governor constantly.

I’ll put in a fair days work for a fair days pay, but im not going above and beyond for an outfit that could replace me in 20mins, or think they can rather.

“the poor man’s got a back that’s strong and a mind that’s weak” not this guy.

As a teenager I worked harder than most grown men I’ve seen even to date. I don’t work hard anymore, I work smart and efficient (at least I do my best)

I thought you said in the shop fees thread mechanics don't make money. Do they make $150k per year, or do they barely break even only because they are charging shop fees?

When its all said and done is it really their fault? I remember my father talking about as a young lad still ploughing the field with a drought horse (Clydesdale) this would of been in the 50 's, then cutting sugar cane by hand, loading container ships with bags of sugar, now the sugar cane cutter has been replaced by the cane harvester, and the dock workers with conveyor belts. Even us older guys what would we rather do park our rig a mile away and walk to get a feed at the Flying J? no we park as close as possible why because its to hard to walk, we have mobile phones, laptop computers, everything is made so easy, so can we really blame the young folk for being so lazy or avoiding things that seem so hard to do?

Mines are a totally different deal than truck shops. Mines own the equipment and the mechanics are employed by the mine. No customer involved.

When say a mining shovel goes down, its costing the mine tens of thousands of dollars an hour (sometimes reaching into 6 figures) in lost production and idle time. Paying a crew $60/hour each to get it fixed and back in production ASAP is peanuts compared to what's lost when operations shut down.

Tradespeople generally make decent wages, but it takes quite a few working on customer stuff in order to turn a profit to pay the owner, office staff and other expenses. No different than the guy who wants to buy a truck, hire a driver and collect a paycheque. Just doesn't work like that.

Pretty much the only correct answer. I'm 28 and I have friends I grew up with that have already established their life, bought a home, have a family, etc. I also have people I grew up with that are the exact opposite and blame everything on big government and capitalism even though they can't hold a job for longer than a year, spend half their paychecks on Uber Eats and video games, but right not their fault at all.

I also see the same exact thing in the older people, especially out here on the road. There's drivers I know that got it together and there's drivers that are just mad at the world and everything is somebody else's fault. And it's the latter that's always complaining the younger generations and out here trying to give advice to us. Like man you look homeless, you stink, you were counting pocket change to just buy a cup of coffee, you probably live in a trailer park, and you were just bragging about how you've driven for 30 different companies over the years. You're a mess. Stop trying to give me advice.

Haha you nailed it. My favorite is when people complain that no one wants to work, but then turn around and whine about not making money since they reject loads to the northeast etc because "waaah, it's too hard".
