I don't see what the big deal is unless you've got something to hide. If you're going to take possession of their equipment and a load the company is responsible for I can understand why they want your fingerprints.
Maybe this will be a break from the often posted drug test questions and we'll start a run of this one now.
It can be asked as,
"Which companies will ask for my fingerprints and not just believe I am who I say I am?" or "I've got this friend who" fill in the rest....
Is it legal for a company to take finger prints

Forget your company I've had to stick my thumb on a screen picking up at shippers and again at the receiver to make sure it was me.
Pet food and nuclear military stuff are treated equal xD. -
The company can ask you for any compliance. You can ask them as well. "At will employment." If you're uncomfortable providing your prints, don't complete your application. Most companies don't want your prints, but it's true that proof of identity is a serious matter. You probably know how many trucks, trailers, and cargo are stolen every day.

I guess we've got a different view on that. I work at a non driving job and have to get fingerprints done every 4 years and previously worked for an armored car company and was fingerprinted there as well. I also have a hazmat endorsement on my CDL and just got that renewed last year. Once again it wasn't a big deal to me. I'm not one for big government and invasion of privacy either but if your job requires it so be it or don't work there. I obviously have nothing to hide. Do you guys who have a problem with giving fingerprints refuse drug tests too? That's an invasion of privacy as well.

Post office requires it of mail contractors. I'm guessing many military contracts would call for it. Like many have said you don't have to work there.
