Is it me or is it time to ban recap tires from on-highway use?

Just to be clear, the stamped number is the minimum pressure to handle the maximum load that is listed on the tire.
It’s not the maximum pressure. The rim determines maximum pressure.
You can run less pressure if you have less than the maximum weight posted. There are charts for that.
To be clear, I usually run fairly close to the recommended pressure listed to always make sure I’m covered for varying loads hauled.Rideandrepair and krupa530 Thank this. -
Have you seen a tire at 55psi?
No way I'm running that. Loaded.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

If you’re running the max load, sure. I bet most people aren’t running 45,400 on their tandems. The engineers say you should have 75psi for roughly 34k on two axles.

you ever installed one of those? i been thinking of getting one. just wondering how hard of a job it is or where to plumb it into?Oxbow, Rideandrepair and wore out Thank this.

I would think getting the airlines through your axle tubes would be the hardest part. I’m sure they do that while building the axle. I still think it should be doable though.exhausted379, Oxbow, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

You have the box with the pressure regulator and shut off valve and then the lines split off going to each side of the axles. I’ve never seen one of these apart so I don’t know what the guts of them are like that go out to the axle ends. You’ll want a light somewhere that you can see it so you know if you have a low tire that’s getting air. All of ours have them on the front corner but you can’t really do that.
They’re real nice doing what I do, especially when you drop and hook and get a trailer that has been buried in the back row for a while. I can see how they’d be a big benefit for guys who get off-road and into job sites.
Rideandrepair and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
You can get aftermarket Kits that don't need airlines through the Axles..

What...wait a minute...how the hell does that go down the road like that?Nostalgic, D.Tibbitt and Rideandrepair Thank this.
