After sixteen years, I'm sure you can drive a truck. If you have no business experience, look around for some basic courses, on line. Nothing complicated, just basics. You'll be far ahead of most, with just that.

Ok, at least you got more than most. If it's been many years, a little refresher can't hurt.

I'm not against people trying. I'm against people failing from ignorance and stupidity. I, myself failed many years ago and I was both. Hard lesson learned. But, I did learn.

I did mine in 98-2000, the business management stuff you did then isn't rocket science.

Remember to do your business plan like you should. Manage your resources, both financial and mechanical and you should be good.

Failing to plan is planning to fail.

When economy dumped i got laid off from a management job, no work for 4 months coulndnt find work anywhere had 3 kids and a wife to support, buddy was haulin livestock called him up to see what it was about and loved it after riding with him a bit. However no cdl! I took a 15 week truck course first day the head teacher asked my plans i told him i was gonna buy a truck and start haulin livestock.... He pretty much scoffed at me and said itd b better to drive for someone to get experience blah blah blah. He just fueled the fire

A week before i got done with school i bought a fld 120 mid roof for 9k from an oo. Found a dot business to do all my filings, authority for just states i was gonna run in which was 5. Had the fld for 7 months put bout 6k in it for repairs, had 2.2 mil on it when i bought it and had been overhauled twice. Ran it like a raped ape grossed $120k in 7 months saved every penny, sold it for 13k, bought a w900 with 1.6 mil for cash for 16k, put about 15k in it since ive had it and love it plus its paid for, i plan on just fixin whats broke and keeping the wheels turning. Ive got plenty set aside to do an overhaul, tranny rears or whatever would break and it wouldnt make me bat an eye

If i had to do it again id do it the same way, id find a truck with over a mil that has been overhauled and i would buy from an owner operator.

Im proof it can b done with an older truck and i had no experience driving, i was just backed in a corner bout to lose everything and was in a do or die situation.

Id advise tho to get as much as u can lined up and in place before u buy the truck like where u gonna get ur loads from, will they require a minimum yr of truck, how quik will u b able to get paid for what u haul to keep cash flow going. who u gonna have do all ur legal dot stuff, insurance.

I made it on a 9k truck an 5k in the bank hoping like heck i could stay problem free for a couple weeks at the least to buy me some time to pad the savings.

Id forget the negative naysayers, their is nothing like not havin some jerk boss suckin the life outta ya.

Once u got all lined up if u can borrow a bit for the truck to keep ur cash on hand then as u start makin money u can get it paid off quick but youll need that cash for repairs possibly and startup costs, at the start its the breakdown that u cant pay for that will screw ya

    thats my .02

high miles isnt always a bad thing i just bought a truck for $22,500 that had 865,000 miles on it but it was never a fleet truck always was in O/O truck that was well taken care of and engine was almost perfect so far i have put about 20,000 miles on it and i swear it has not burned hardly any oil my mechanic said i prolly wont have to worry about engine overhaul till about 1.5 mil miles long as i continue taking good care of it. so it isnt the miles its how it was cared for
