Didn't include quote, pretty big. But, it's good thinking, good practical points. I'd like to add a couple of my own observations.
1. You can buy a new truck, you can buy a 12 year old truck, you can buy a truck with 250K, but you can't buy the future. There is no silver bullet in this, and any truck, new, used, old or fresh can have a problem. True that older trucks have more problems, but not always so. True that newer trucks have fewer problems, but not always so, especially trucks with environmental equipment.
If you get to the point of purchase, you'll find commercial credit is a lot different than the consumer credit you're (probably) used to. Don't stress about it, just part of the curve.
If you get thru all the steps and start pulling loads, be careful with your money. Real careful.
I have asked a number of companies why drivers fail as owners/independent contractors? They all said the same thing: drivers tend to stay home more when they have a choice. Drivers tend to spend the earnings, and can't afford the inevitable valley that's coming. Other than that, work hard, be thrifty, go for it.
Is it ok to start out as a O/O
