Is it possible for a newly graduated truck driver to get a job with Allied?

My father-in-law has hauled cars for Allied for 7 or 8 years. He started at 300ish on the board (whatever that is. I'm just repeating what my husband told me!) and now he's in the 70s. He said that Allied is hiring about 40 people, and he *thinks* he can get my husband a job right after he graduates school next month. Is this something that is possible? From what I've read, the new graduates get the crappy jobs driving across the country and are gone for weeks on end. Can someone who has some seniority recommend someone for a job and actually have it go through?

Yes, if he knows the right people. My first driving job right out of school was hauling cars. Although that was back in the mid eighties. New guys usually get the long runs, I didn't get home much back then.

As with most jobs who you know has a tremendous influence in the hiring process. I am aware of several truckers who walked right into a very comfortable position thought impossible due to the standard pecking order. It's who you know, like most things.
