The short answer is yes but there are alot of things to think about. Over here at Landstar if your pulling a dry van that would be on the low side, figuring a 500 mile day that would put you at 1.60 a mile. My 30 day average is setting at 2.69 per mile and Im running 12,000 miles a month right now. So in a thirty day month Im sitting at about 1076.00 per day, thats about where I want to be. The trick is to keep that 1076.00 per day but do it running less miles.

Where did you get that number?cetanediesel Thanks this.

4-500 ok on a 100 mile run.
cetanediesel Thanks this. -
I did a 55 mile TOWY last friday for 10.64 a mile. It just about covered the gas for my boat, beer and food for the long weekend.

You can make 800 to 1000 per day. But you have to look at your average over time - like Desert Skies. If you plan your trips carefully and average what you make from the time you leave the house until you return, you'll be able to decide which loads are worth taking to keep you closer to your goals!

It really is all about knowing your numbers and setting obtainable goals. Without a workable set of numbers there is no way for an O/O to measure thier progress and make needed adjustments. At Landstar I know guys that can easily get by on 1.50 a mile (gross) while others like me need 2.25+.

Thanks, everyone. But how can lease operator get by with 95 cents per mile? Is there less cost per mile in the lease deal?
