You should try fuel gauges for a month. For the same amount of effort you will get 30,60,90 and lifetime mpg, cost per mile, average cost of fuel and average cost per fill up.

I believe that $1000-1500 a day gross is very possible for those who want to look outside the box (litterally). I find that dry freight or reefers dont really pay well with the exception of a few good lanes. If you want to make serious $$ out here then it is in the specialized end of things. I haul a B train tanker, 8 axle combo, grossing at 140,000 lbs. I am on a steady dedicated run that is 1140 miles round trip, half of those miles empty. My 30 day mpg is 5.81 and my 60 day is 5.77. After fuel and all expenses including plates, ins., maintenance, truck payment an driver @ 50 cpm, my daily net income is $1260. Not bad for driving 570 miles empty every other day...

If you want to take a good look around and see whats out there, there are plenty of rates that I have seen freight going for $5+ a mile...and thats not the short haul stuff either...

Now that I have gotten away from the general van freight, I dont see how I could ever go back to it. I am out here to make all I can, not really for the fun of it...

First I don't think that the few o/o that are comparing rates in Canada can count...freight is different...rates are different etc...

I am really confused reading some of these post from you guys who say that making $800 is a strech or cannot be done or can't be done daily...umm you do realize that you can get a dedicated route in say a 275 mile radius that pays as little as $1.45 and make that number easily? You guys holler and scream about no cheap freight but if you cannot manage $800 a day but the guy who is only making $1.45 mi is....home every night and off on weekends...who's plan makes more sense?

The guy who nets more. Gross numbers are of extremely limited value. I played tournament poker professionally for a few years and always thought it was funny how many people boasting of "millions" in winnings where netting less than the local McDonald's manager

People who look at their gross and think 'WOW I made alotta dough today' are seriously fooling themselves. That money is only yours for a very short term until the bills start coming in. Fuel, truck pmt, ins, maintenance, driver, and TAXES... The guy who looks at his gross is probably the same guy who looks at his bank acct to see how his business is doing. More and more go broke because of this everyday and thats good cause it leaves more freight and more negotiating room for the rest of us who know what we are doing.

Local work. I don't work very hard at all. No reason to make more than needed.
