Going into CDL training hopefully soon (I know, it's the most awful year to do this, but I'm afraid if I don't do it now the school grant will vanish). I'll be doing my training in Colorado, but want to hire into a region covering either Pittsburgh (because I want to settle there and buy land), or Chicago (originally from there). I like a lot of the towns in Colorado, but I've found I just want to be in a less-deserty place with more trees. Live and learn.
Do you think a company will let me do that? Or will I be restricted to places that hire out of Colorado until I physically go rent something in one of those other states and change my license to IL or PA? I have nothing in Colorado I need home time for, so it wouldn't conflict with me getting that. I expect I could have my off days anywhere for a good few months/year.
Thanks for your guys' time and advice. This whole forum is wonderful!
Is it possible to be hired into a region where you WANT to live, but don't currently?

Are you fresh out of the military?
Move to Tennessee where there's no state income taxes and lots of trees and greenery.

As for companies hiring areas; most large trucking companies hire from 48 states.
If you move to another state, you'll have to tell the trucking company, for their records and also change your cdl to the new state.Rideandrepair, bryan21384, nextgentrucker and 1 other person Thank this. -

I think Dot Foods Transportation you have to live within 100 miles of a terminal. Ask the recruiter about that. If you hire on at Denver terminal, then you can transfer later to a terminal in another state close to where you want to live.

All the others hire out of Denver and all 48 states, so you can take home time about anywhere.Rideandrepair and IonAddis Thank this. -
This one is dry van. The others I posted are refrigerated.
Talk to the recruiter about hiring in Denver and time off in Tennessee or Pittsburg. The pay on this ad looks a little exaggerated, but don't know for sure.
