    Hey all,

I'm looking into the possibility of hauling a dual sport bike (around 300 lbs) with my Mazda 3 (2008 manual transmission) and so far all I can find as far as trailers go are ones that would fit a class 3 hitch. Is there a class 3 hitch out there that would fit my car? If not is there a trailer that would do the job? Is this even a good idea in the first place? Thanks for any advice in advance!

Personally I wouldn't tow with a mazda 3 but plenty of people do things I wouldn't do. You will need a small very small light weight trailer aluminum preferably or maybe a harbor freight 4x8 special.

    No.

Ive had hitches on cars before little class ones and you can put a 20 ton log splitter on it. It's not much. And you will feel it. (500 pounds max on two tiny wheels...)

A proper class III hitch goes onto pickup trucks. My quad cab had one bolted to frame, I think it was 400 dollars for it about 100 to bolt it on and another 100 for wiring, fittings, security bolts etc. Tow ability for my 6 liter engine was about 7000 pound trailer max provided I only put about 600 pounds on the tongue.

300 pounds in motor bikes should not be a problem if you bought a little 5x10 footer at Lowes or something...

People all over the world tow trailers with small cars without incident, it's just in North America because of its higher population of lawyers that the manufacturers don't recommend it.
If you look at the same spec for an American car vs the same car in Europe or Australia they usually have a 1,000 lbs towing capacity.
Although a class three would be too heavy if someone tried to actually load it up,
I had a hitch on my 1996 Lada and it towed a 4x8 utility trailer just fine. But don't try going 75 mph with it.

I don't think you need a class 3 hitch to haul the bike you're describing. Motorcycle rail trailers are light. They even have folding ones now hardly take up any room in your garage at home. Look around online and you'll find the info you need.

They are both class 1 hitches made for the Mazda 3...rated for a 2000# trailer/200# tongue weight.

Buy the hitch recommended. It will bolt right on to car. Most cars have minimal towing capacity. Ive towed my 17' boat with honeys olds '88 with class 1 hitch installed.
