My friend is saying he is close to making 70k his first year running solo with swift. No teams or otr, just solo.

    Is he full of it?

Ask to see his pay stubs. Tell him you told some people about what he said and it was like being at a Rap concert with everyone pointing at the sky with one hand and rubbing their crotch with the other hand. Humor the guy. Maybe he's telling the truth.

Yea ask to see his pay stub. At .38 cpm, you would have to run around 200,000 miles a year to average 70k.

This is one of those times it's better to just say "ok" and move on with life. Like all the ex-seals, he's obviously lying. Just never worth it to bring it up again. It will only annoy one or both of you.

I would gather your buddy is a lease purchase driver and his $70,000 range is what he's gotten before the expenses have been taken out

"Close to"? Maybe they need to be more specific. Or could be he's on some sort of dedicated account and makes a lot of accessorial pay on top of a decent mileage rate. Or maybe he sells Tupperware and porn DVDs on the side in his downtime.

But one of the first things you learn in the first year of trucking is how to exaggerate stories and "facts".
