You’re hustling . Anyone can make 50 , you have to hustle to make 70 . Whether it’s hustling miles or rates or the right job. The biggest mistake the drivers make is believing that they have the work ethic to get to the top advertised ranks . Most fall in the middle and never understand why they don’t hit the magic numbers

With a flux capacitor I think you could. Just puck it up today and deliver it yesterday. Or fast forward a year and see you pay for the year.

No doubt. They won't just "give you miles" even if you are willing and able to run them. That's a big misconception rookies have. Companies usually make more money on multiple short hauls than they do on long ones. The company exists to make themselves money; they aren't interested in running long distances just because the driver is.

Also, I don't understand why anyone is talking about lease operators. It was established early on that this friend of the OP is a company driver.

170,000*.40 cpm would be 68. It’s possible if you run 3k miles a week and never go home

    Minor nitpick.... 52 x 3k is 156,000, and that times .40 is 62,400

Here's another part to add to the equation. A good driver can achieve Platinum status. It's not hard to do and a few of my trainees did that within three months of going solo.

Every quarter you get $0.04 a mile bonus IIRC for all miles you ran during that quarter. It adds up. The year I was a mentor I got about $8K in bonuses.

Also add the fact the OP's friend is also getting extra stop pay and if he's unloading freight he gets paid for that.
