Is it possible to make good money hauling containers (intermodal)?

You usually deal with 6, swift, jbhunt,sni,hub, ch robinson, and cosco, longer loads are better because you once have to book 1 or 2 loads a day shorter loads you need 3 to be good

Thank you so much for your quick response. I'm in Los Angeles California and the idea is to start working with 2 tractors and call 6 owner operators to help with overload. I understand here locally you get a mix, 60% short runs about 120-150 miles round trip and then Phoenix and San Francisco loads. Just wanted to know of as many brokers as possible. The idea is to lease a yard after 2-3 months.

JB, SNI and swift all have power only programs if you have your own authority for at least 6 months.

Thank you. How hard is it to get work from these companies initially? I've had my license since April 2016 and MY company's MC is since June of this year.
I am located in Southern California close to Los Angeles and long beach harbors plus the rail stations. I am seeing that it's better to pull containers from the rail because there is less waiting time and the rates for rail aren't much lower than port.

I noticed you mentioned the &10K bond with CSX. I will look them up but I imagine they require a lot of things a start up won't have like a certain amount of tractors, yard size, etc. I will start calling those brokers this week and see what happens.

I work for Hub Group, worked locally here in Salt Lake as a company driver bringing home $500-750 a week,Now I'm back as a Owner Operator and choosing to run in their OTR division of less than 100 trucks where the pay is pretty decent.light freight,dedicated accounts.and when I get tired of OTR,I'll go back to local for HUB.!!!!
