I haven't read any previous posts..short on time so this will be a quickie. Im an O/O pulling containers local and on average I clear 2k a week after fuel and expenses. Money is there to be made depending on alot of things that hopefully has already been covered..if not, I will first chance I get.
Looks like most basis have been covered. I like to add that the reason you don't see newer trucks pulling containers is very simple. Its not worth it, especially consideringthe places we visit everyday. Most aren't paved with potholes you could lose sight of your truck in. I personally wouldn't spend over 40k on unless I had a sweet paying dedicated lane.
Is it possible to make good money hauling containers (intermodal)?

Any gig that gets you home every night isn't going to pay crap. I looked into several of these gigs and bottom line is the money isn't there. Plus I'm all to familiar with the problems associated with finding your chassis only to find out you have to spend 2 hours replacing lights or fixing tires then waiting for the guy to set the box on. I did the shipyards in the port of LB, CA. Same thing only better roads. No thanks.
$1500-$2000 a week is half of what I do if that.Classic97 Thanks this. -

There are plenty of good paying gigs that get you home every night in the northeast.

please tell me how much mental help i need. very spoiled being home every weekend. i don't want this to sound like i'm complaining about the company i'm leased to because it's of my own decision! i'm leased to a container company whose corporate office is in charlotte, nc. overall average for me is $1.30 per mile for every hub mile driven, with fuel costs of $0.577 cents per mile at 6.22 mpg c-15 W900L at 63 mph
they look for every chance they can to bill you for their sorry tires. i average 63% loaded 29% empty and the rest bobtail. i keep my out of route miles to a very minimum, stay out through the week, no eating out, pull as light of loads available. (non forced dispatch)
they do what they say they will and that's good but they keep half the national fuel surcharge and keep half the detention pay charged to the customer and half the hazmat. detention is $40.00 per hour after 2 hours waiting from appointment time and $50.00 extra for hazmat loads. you buy your own tag, pay your own fuel taxes, $1500.00 escrow. -
Anyone have experience with Roadone or Allied Brothers Intermodal? I see them a lot in my area.
