    What State are you in?

I'm an S-corp and pay myself as an employee in Oregon. The State won't allow me to contribute to U.I. and collect.

I’m in Illinois and they require that I pay Unemployment insurance but I am not eligible to receive any benefits from it.

Where do you file your quarterly wage statement that includes all things related to payroll?

I’m set up as an s Corp in Mi. I’m exempt from paying into ui by choice. Don’t pay in, can’t collect. That simple. I know of a few Gravel haulers that lay themselves off in winter time, and collect. From 1 Truck to 1; Truck Operations. They have standard payroll, with deductions, and matching SS contributions. And pay into UI. Even the Owner, paid as a Driver collects.

Well I could not answer the question as far as being an owner and collecting unemployment.

But as a separate issue my understanding of unemployment is that you cannot collect until you paid into it for so long.

So a new employee I do not believe can collect unemployment unless that has been paid on him for some time.

It's possible maybe some of that has changed now because it's been many years since I've worked with that, but I thought that it works that it's a fund that you contribute to and after you've contributed for so long whatever that period of time is then you can collect.

I was wondering about this myself. I’m an S Corp and pay payroll tax on $20/hr 45 hrs each week. Can I collect unemployment? I figure not but have no idea. If it gets that bad I’ll call my accountant and report back. For now I plan on keeping rolling.

Pennsylvania no doubt has it rigged so that not only will you not be able to collect, you'll probably have to send in more.
