I think you can,as long as you paid into the scheme,,I mean system.

 

Ive never had anyone file unemployment from my company in the 12 yrs I’ve been doing this. Would be funny if I was the first. I’m too prideful though I think. (Or maybe too ignorant)

When I established my LLC and elected to file as an S-corp, the CPA set everything up in QuickBooks Pro for me. Including the payroll deductions, etc.

One of those deductions was U.I. for the State of Oregon. They handled the first quarter filings for me.

However, after reading through Oregon's process for collecting unemployment insurance, I discovered that as an officer of the S-corp I wasn't able to collect U.I., even though I was paying into it!

The CPA was like, "Ooops, we're sorry."

And I was like, "why in the heck am I paying your firm $200 an hour when you didn't even know that?"

I dropped them after that and handled everything on my own since then. That was 5 years ago.
