Why is it that every thread i read with a "newbie" asking questions, everyone that answers have a negative answer? You make it seem like trucking is miserable, scaring away the people that have been wanting to drive their entire lives. I just think its funny and i learn from it, i wanna be the complete opposite of what yall are i guess, which would be happy and successful ! :biggrin_25525:
It was just a question though, wondering if its really as bad as you say, why continue to drive and bring other people down? You should be telling them the positive things that could come out of it if you work hard.

It's not that miserable ppl are just trying to warn you of the negative things that do exist. I absolutely love my career and I make dang good money. I would not do anything else.

Because everyone who's never done it seems to think it's a grand lifestyle...getting paid good money to see the country....etc...etc...etc...

A little dose of reality just might keep someone from making a huge mistake. Not everyone is cut out for this job...and it makes a lot more sense to discover the "dark side" of the job BEFORE you spend several grand getting a CDL.

Im just tired of being warned of the negative after every question, id like to hear from the happy drivers instead of the people that hate what they do. Its like if they are doing bad, they want everyone else who plans to drive to expect to do bad also

And I was involved in the mentioned thread. There was nothing that negative just a whole lot of truth, if you want us to lie to you just let us know!

I just think people should explain to people the things they would need to do to become successful, instead of filling their heads with personal misery

It's good to stay positive, and it can be hard to do in trucking- drivers are the weak link in the chain. It's easy to blame everything that goes wrong on them.

You got LUCKY, riding with your Dad, that's a great way to get introduced to the biz- jump in here as soon as you can and get a piece of otr.

But as soon as you notice how your hard work and best efforts are being ignored- and as soon as you realize that the company that hired you refuses to treat you with respect and dignity, you'll start to get "irritated" like the rest of us. I'll give you three- no, wait- five years, max until you're red hot and want to kick someone's a&&.

You think you have to be a driver to be successful in this career but I know you actually have to be a gladiator. In five years' time it'll be you or them, they'll own you and you'll have your tail tucked under or you'll be self sufficient and proud of it. Time will tell..

It would be the same no matter where you go as in most jobs there are a few that really dislike what they do and a few that really like what they do and then the majority in the middle.

I think that sometimes a dose of reality of the LIFESTYLE that is driving though is what people are trying to tell you about. It's not just a job...you don't go home at 5pm and beech to the family that your boss is a jerk. You are on the truck 24/7 if you want to make money and may have to make sacrafices that you never realized like missing a family event or not eating well or sleeping correctly. I don't think the answers are meant to burst bubbles but to prepare newbies for what lay ahead because things in the industry have changed ALOT in recent years.

Hang in there and stay positive!! Just remember the responses to your questions are meant to prepare you is all.
