Wolfe Creek makes the Mountains near Denver like a nice Sunday drive.

I think I68 is worse than Vale, personally.. especially at the point where you're restricted to the right lane, and you have to deal with merging traffic.

As I've mentioned before, I have a gig on the side... third year making the run for this guy... Colorado Springs to Kremmling to get loaded, then back to Co. Springs. The scariest part of that trip for me isn't the mountains... I know how to handle myself.
The scariest part of that run for me is CO-21 (Powers. Blvd.) in Colorado Springs, from Barnes to Galley (where I turn off of Powers/CO-21). If I had a Dollar for every time I had a near miss with some ####### who was in the far right or left lane, then suddenly just cut over two lanes without even thinking about what was around them because they just HAD to get to Chik-Fil-A or Target or whatever, I'd probably have that large three bank Snap On tool chest I want by now.

What was fun was going down 71 south of Bentonville/Fayetteville/Springdale etc. before they built 540. I remember thinking the turns and cliffs were done then came up to another and had to lay on the brakes.

Did molas and coal bank between Durango and Silverton this past fall delivering soda.

Not as bad as red mountain but still a loooong ways down the mountain if you got too close to the edge. In a day cab with a 48' it wasn't too bad.

I'd argue red mountain is probably in the "find another route if you can in a big truck" category lol

I haven't been over Wolf Creek in years, but I know they've considerably widened the road, making it easier to get up and over. I know the boys over at brisk transport bring city market/king soopers loads every day thru Wolf Creek. Snow or not.

Wolf Creek is a piece of cake now. Monarch is a different story.
