Is it still acceptable to use chain/strap hybrid to secure heavy equipment?

Last time I ran deck I loved my double end chain ratchet straps. So much quicker than chain and binder for hauling equipment. Is this still allowed by dot? Or course you have to run within the WLL on the straps, but can it be done safely and legally?

Has anything else changed in 10 years I should be aware of?

The only things that requires chains(or steel cables) are container x chains, crushed cars, and large irregular boulders.

When the loads get real big chains are often used in series with lifting slings for securement.

Glad my trailer has container locks
I bet metal coil also requires chains?
    What about ingots?

Not required but strongly suggested by at least 95% of experienced operators.
The reasons are because all straps do stretch by about 2 to 3% and on long pulls then they cannot completely stop movement.

Not sure how large of equipment you’re doing but I don’t see how you can be faster with that style of strap. Also as mentioned before they are stretchy compared to chain. It’s probably not worth worrying about but if you’re moving over width stuff a couple inches movement could be big trouble.

Had this happen in comiefornia. Was hauling a trailer that shifted 2.5" one way. $500 fine.

Its probably a good thing women don't impose such fines on men for that same "short" fall.... Lol
