900 a month on insurance is middle of the road. Try $1700 then you will be singing a different tune.

Industry is in a down turn for sure. To many people entering last year and issues with stores succumbing to big box retailers.

Robot trucks are and will be the future, ride it out then get in on the good year.

I did it with 5 years. Being successful with your own authority is not difficult, just a lot of work. It’s very possible I’m not the average joe, and maybe most people shouldn’t attempt getting their own authority. I’d say, go for it. You never know unless you try it. There are many people who would be successful at this, but don’t know because they never tried it!

Before trying it, you want to have a few years of experience, especially as an independent contractor; inform yourself about how to transition to working under your own authority; and save at least 30k, but it is possible to do it with less money and use Quick Pay.

Remember boys and girls, trucking is the fastest way to make a small 2 million dollar fortune. Once you burn through 8 million of the larger fortune doing it.

At the end of the day it's something more than the average driver to go into independent. Im just happy to be a company man, however Ive had a taste, a nibble once years ago. But that door remained shut. Who knows what it would be. I cannot go too much into this subject. Ive got two more surgeons to see tomorrow who wants to do some more chopping and cutting. Not looking forward to this round.

I can go out and net 3k a week after all expenses including taxes most any time of the year open decking I feel like working that hard. Sometimes 4-5k if the markets up. It's not easy money, but It's not a bad way to make a living and then some. You just have to know what it costs you to run and stay in the lanes that will allow you to be profitable without losing your sanity. I won't go to New York City for any amount of money for example.

This is a segment of the economy. Look at DAT trendlines, Cass freight index, New truck orders monthly(now vs last year). A big increase in trucks available this year over last year. Cass indicates overall freight volume is similar year over year. But load board offerings are down.
