I would be interested in learning the experience of parking in the "welcome" spot or first spot next to the curb (without markings) at the rest area in Cumby, Texas. From what I hear, they love to write tickets there if you are not in a marked spot.

I got a parking ticket in Maryland for parking in the first spot at a rest area. Apparently in that rest area, it's considered a travel lane. I rolled in there at 4am, barely awake and took the first opening available. At 630am the cop was knocking on my door. Never did make me move, just wrote a ticket and went on his way. All about the money in Maryland.
Come to think of it, I've been busted in Maryland three or four times over 23 years, for different reasons. They wrote a ticket, never made me correct the issue, and I was allowed to continue whatever I was doing that they determined was illegal. Makes the term 'highway robbery' a legitimate thing I guessRideandrepair, Gearjammin' Penguin, tscottme and 3 others Thank this. -
Just makes it legal, for an additional fee.OldeSkool, IH Truck Guy, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this.

I pulled on the scales in Maryland and a cop came running out of the scalehouse, jumped up on the step and pointed at my sunglasses case on the dash.
He said, give me that, radar detectors are illegal in Maryland. I gave it to him and he looked and shoved it back at me and waved me on.Feedman, Rideandrepair, Milr72 and 5 others Thank this. -
Ummmmm.....what you've laid out in these posts as the 1st parking spot seems to be a non parking spot. If the curb marks the end of the spot, that means you're parking where passers through may need to get by. I see truckers park like that all the time. In my opinion, that isn't very good trucker etiquette. I mean, I hear of drivers creating spots at the truck stop, it's crazy that drivers are creating spots at the rest area lol..I have no problem with drivers creating spots, but when a driver is parked in a way that hinders someone from getting through, that's a situation.RockinChair, Rideandrepair, Numb and 1 other person Thank this.

That's usually the "good-buddy" parking spot and that's what the deal is with the flashing lights.RockinChair, Rideandrepair, Crude Truckin' and 3 others Thank this.

To be fair, it doesn't make much sense to have the pass-through at the start because you want to drive through and see if there's a space until the end. I wouldn't really complain about anybody taking the first pass-through spot because there's always an end pass through.Rideandrepair, TruckDriver87, expedite_it and 1 other person Thank this.

Lol been there done that. In my case it was my wallet. I had one of those slim mint clamshell plastic ones for a while i was given as a gift and always left it in the dash since it hurt to sit on. Its about the size and shape of a detector. And basically same thing. Got directed to parking and cop was standing there waiting and hopped up on my step and demanded my "radar"
Got a level 1 for my trouble too once he realized my "radar detector" was infact a wallet. ####### wrote me up for a marker being out because it only had 3 of the LEDs still working.Rideandrepair, Sons Hero and Chinatown Thank this.
