There is a 50% first year wash out rate. There are many reasons why, but in regards to your query it is because they don't plan for time off.

You can have a life leasing with Schneider, however you can't just take as much time off as you want. The truck costs money just sitting still, so you have to plan your revenue goals with time off in mind.

If, after business expenses you net $2,000 running 7 days, and run 21 days then take 7 off your "real" net is only $1,500 a week. Not bad, but not much better than company driver once you take into account health insurance, etc.

This is what the guys who say you'll have no life mean. You've got to keep moving just to keep your head above water. If you plan and think about more than tomorrow then the math changes.

As a side note, freight rates and volume are down right now. Waiting 6 months might be a very good decision. It will also allow you to pad your nest egg for when you do pull the trigger.

It is sure hard to find nice good hearted, folks like that bunch at schneider, that will lease you a truck and let you make the payments and take care of all breakdowns and maintenence for hopefully not too much less than they pay you to drive one of their own.

If you plan on staying out 5 weeks+ and coming home for only 3 or 4 days you can make leasing work. If you dont plan on running like that be a company driver.

    FlaSwampRat and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Drive for Schneider first talk to current Owner ops. Then compare the money just remember that contractors like to say that load paid 3000.00 or big numbers on a Friday. But then you the company driver was the only one that really got paid in that conversation.
