Yea well they don't have the sense to not eat laundry soap or not snort a condom through their nose so I'll just ignore that

Interesting, I have heard this before, I'd like to know how?
Basically, you can't hurt the new automatics, they won't let you. I prefer a manual, but as long as somebody else is paying for the truck, I will drive either.Brickwall and homeskillet Thank this. -
Dont think these gutless company trucks couldn hurt a manual if you put a monkey in it and let him have at itshogun Thanks this.

The first automatic truck I drove had the clock in the speedometer. It was an M915A1. It had a gear stick labeled RND12345. They would take off in first gear just like a car. You had to stand on the brakes at stops to keep them from moving. They would still creep if your brakes were out of adjustment.
Maj. Jackhole Thanks this. -
Being able to float and down shift on ice and being able to rock the truck when it's stuck.DTP and Maj. Jackhole Thank this.

We have to run at least 400HP to pull LCV, we choose to run 500-550HP.
How many times have you seen that idiot pulling gears at a light with the cab twisting on each shift? Pissed off at his dispatch, wife/girlfriend or both? Some drivers take their frustrations out on the machine, automatics make sense on a fleet truck. -
Yea trying to float em down on ice when you're a rookie is kinda fun. I try not to put myself in those getting stuck situations though getting hooked is expensive last I heard
-
I'll give you the rocking when stuck, with an auto, throttle - no throttle and don't feed more fuel when you've already lost traction. Feathering the clutch that last bit of back-in is also nice.
Most inconveniences disappear with familiarity.
30 years ago you could get into 5 different Kenworths and have 5 different transmissions to learn to use, autos are just another transmission to learn to use. -
I wouldn't know. I've always gotten out by rocking. Had to put chains a couple of times to get out, especially in the oil field. -
Anybody that can drive a manual an drive an auto. The problem is when you only know how to drive an auto.Woodys, Brickwall, homeskillet and 1 other person Thank this.
