Nothing really to misread in my post.. Florida is strict about the kingpin rules. From time to time I’ve seen these posts from drivers getting nailed for it in FL.
You have a permit that covers you so you don’t get bothered, doesn’t sound like the OP has one.

I had two tickets in Quebec and they were $475 each I believe. I’d take the $100 ticket and run. I also got caught with an expired permit in PEI by a couple of days but the guy was great about it and let me renew / pay for the permit right there at the scale and be gone.

YOU, as a/the driver, and most certainly your company should have made sure it was legal B4 accepting it. Since YOU accepted it w/o any knowledge of legal lengths along your route, then YOU need to pay up or give it to your company & have them pay it or fight it out.
