If you want to get out and see the country, and all the industrial areas and truck stops, and see how far people are willing to go for a dollar then it will be quite the experience for you. Take the time to talk to people and some of the conversations you will have can blow your mind. If you ever thought your life was hard at one point, you'll find 100 people that will throw that idea out the window. The driving is fun most of the time but can be a nightmare other times. Loading/unloading and that stuff is decent unless you are dealing with unionized workers.

Treat it like an adventure and take pictures and get to know the history behind some of the areas you drive through and I think it can be a rewarding experience. This is my favorite part of the work. Unfortunately the driving is wearing thin on the home front for me so I am looking at other paths.

I would say I am better person for the experience. I have been trying to keep things "oldschool" so I have definately gotten better at showing courtesy and respect to fellow man. I may not be driving much longer but if there is one thing I will walk away with, I hope it is the "knights of the road" mentality.

If you are only interested in it because you heard from someone that you can make a lot of money doing it...then I would say "NO", and would shout it out at you from every rooftop in the city until you got it. haha

NO!!! These trucking companies are trying to micro-manage thru QualCom, Idle times, Fuel stops etc etc. IMO this is probably the worst time ever to enter this industry. I believe these companies are setting precedents and making decisions that will come back to bite them big time. I firmly believe that sometime in 2010 or early 2011 you will see several carriers close the doors. Treatment of drivers, poor management decisions, the restructuring of the US economy, and the falling dollar will impact the industry like it's never seen. Stay out of it!!

    Hi neighbor!

Just think though, if those carriers do close their door, The companies that stay open will have more drivers to choose from. They will want the best, and they will have to pay for the best. I took an economics course once and I was taught that one school of thought is that the economy will correct itself eventually. That's about all I remember about the course though.
