Was wondering about if I should start working with skateboards straight out of school or should I stick with what I learn on which was 53 ft dry van? Some of you guys already gave your opinions about who should I go for but still undecided about if it would be a smart decision to go with skateboards or dry van. Dont mind the xtra physical work but would like to know more about what to expect on a skateboard, specially with the different weather, strapping, tarping, and most important pay. It's it a big diffrence on pay from skateboards and drive vans, it's it more or less the same, it's it hard to do skateboards with all the xtra work? I will be honest and say that I have some lower back problems but it doesn't stop me from doing my job specially pre-tripping but was wondering if it would become a problem with the xtra physical work required to do with skateboards? Will appreciated tremendously any advice that any of you could give me specially any skateboarders but all advice from any of you brothers will be gladly appreciated! Safe trucking to all of you guys n THANKS!

Melton drivers make average $50K per year & the trucks have APU's.
    Excellent healthcare package also.
As far as the lower back, get a "back brace belt" & wear it while securing the load. Google will show you where to buy one. Same problem with me, so I got one to wear when I pulled a reefer and lumped my own loads for extra cash. Those belts make all the difference and you will notice a big difference.

Flatbedding isn't really that much work. You will learn the secrets of that in securement training during orientation. Usually, a forklift will put the tarps on top of the load, then you simply unroll it & secure it to the trailer with bungees/tarp straps. $40.00 for doing that, easy money.

I've done flatbed & tanker and it's a whole different world. I would never go back to reefer or van again.
Most flatbedders and tanker-yankers will tell you the same.

Well chinatown i guess I will not be going to Melton. Mike Howard called me today and started processing my application and the 1st ? Was " am I or was I under any care from a Dr? I did not wanted to lie because they do extensive backgrounds and I was until recently under a Dr.'s care for my lower back which was for a herniated disk. Even though my Dr. release me from that injury he said that, that will disqualify me from employment because I didnt have surgery to fix it. I asked him if I go with dry van (knight) will they be doing extensive background on that and he said that I should be fine because is diffrent work. Wanted to get your valuable opinion on this matter as am I going to have problems with this issue with them or any other company since I was release from Dr.'s care about 2 weeks ago?

That link to the persons rant about Melton doesn't say a single thing about why the driver and company separated, or anything else that was going on, basically only saying to avoid trucking industry as a whole. Besides, it is quite outdated also, was posted June 13th, 2007, well over 6 years ago. Just like in the Report A Bad Trucking Company section on this website, it doesn't show both sides of the story, so it is hard to tell exactly what transpired.

What was the exact question and how long did it refer? That question couldn't have been open-ended as EVERYONE was "under a doctor's care" at some point in their life. There has to be a time reference in that question but since you were under a doctor's care very recently and he released you, obtain a note from him indicating surgery isn't necessary (assuming it isn't) for you to do the work required. Herniated disks are often a big red flag for trucking companies, especially flat bedding companies or carriers where you have to sling freight.

Well, I been on disability for the past 3 months do to my job. My Dr had let me return to work before with some restriction due to my job been in a warehouse. I have move up to do inbound trucks (unloading them) which doesn't required a lot of picking and my back was find with minimal discomfort. Ever since I told them that my back was giving me problems they started messing with me more putting me to pick every day but they was telling me that they was trying to work with me. Before I when on disability they had told me to bring a restriction letter so they wont have me picking so much which I did and as soon as I gave them the letter they said I had to go on disability so my Dr put me on 3 months. I felt that they was going to try and get rid of me so while I was on disability I decided to go for my cdl a license. Now I just had a full clearance from my Dr. To return to work on the 19 which I know and feel that they going to let me go thats why I already move forward with attending orientation on the 26 with knight. Even if im wrong about them letting me go on the 19 I was just going to stay there for a week so I could have some $ in my pocket while I do otr with them. Hope that this back problem which I have under control doesn't come and bite me on the ...

That website is awful... It's a site dedicated to idiots that got fired. None of them are company reviews, just whining from pissed off dumb/lazy people.
