i will save you a huge headache. the link above is to the thread. there is NO FMSCA REGULATION or STATE LAW that prevents you from carrying a firearm in a CMV.
the companies are the ones that prevent drivers from being legally armed. you have to know what the laws are for each state you intend to be visiting. if you run any northeast at all, and seeing that you live in vermont, your pretty much screwed for carrying for self defense.
my TN handgun permit is good in 37 or 38 states now, but if i ever got caught with my handgun in my truck or on my person in NJ, that is a felony and i go to jail. i am considered a criminal just like the thugs who murder and rob banks.
i am very fortunate to work for a small company and the owner does not mind if we are armed. i mind my business. it is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6
keep on truckin!
is messing with other truck drivers equipment common?

there was a trailer sitting on the ground, no truck, no landing gear, at hmm, I forget, somewhere in SLC couple weeks ago. I assumed someone messed with him.. I didn't really think that sorta thing really happened, but seeing that made me glad I always check my coupling.

I don't even know why it was brought up? Are you gonna shoot someone over pulling a pin? That'll go over good in court. I know you are just answering the other guy Cadillac. -
My trainer poed another driver and the next morning she went to take off and all I heard was a loud snapping noise and a huge thud and somebody let the landing gear half way down and pull the 5th wheel pin and so when she took off she dropped the trailer and snapped the airlines. We both had to sit through a safety class because of it!!!

Get caught in Ky with that firearm and try again. I have a CCDW permit and that fact pops up every time my license is ran. And every time I'm asked if I'm armed. And there is a law against carrying firearms in the state of KY. The federal law is no law or unclear BUT every state can enforce its laws. -

Its always worth taking a quick walkaround your truck before you take off - that alone may save you a roadside repair if for no other reason that you spot a nail in a tire. As others have pointed out, vandalism is more common than one might suspect. Securing your truck and trailer is important too - we had someone toss a molotov ####tail into one of our loaded trailers through an unlocked inspection door. The trailer and load were total losses - as I suspect was the drivers job.

i heard them this tell this stuff while in class, but i never seen it, till a couple years ago here in des moines pilot, when a swift truck took off, still dont know how he made it that far, rough as that ground is at the pilot,on a paved lot, with so many pot holes, but he lost the van trl right next door too shop, almost went down that little embankment too head on into the new motel they were building but the curb caught the landing gear and stop it, so they routed everyone backwards thru the fuel pumps , as that was the only way out , becuse the exit was blocked, but other then that i never seen anthor one, but we all need too be on high alert now anyway, with all these whackos and teriost out there anyway, it only takes a couple secs too check out your truck and trl , the trucking school i went too did this too teach the newbes , thay would put a quater in the glad hand and explain too us as too why and how and was up too us too figure out why the brakes would not work , we had air on gauge and everything, but i thought that was a mean trick
