Going to all autos. I'd say they are majority automatic now but some manuals still around.

Many do but I would imagine it will be dwindling. My trainer had an auto over 1.5 years ago. The truck I was issued after training was an auto.

Ironically one of the reasons I went with Millis instead of another company I was thinking about was I wanted manual experience. Then as I get there I learn they are switching to autos. All of my school training was with manuals and I took my CDL road test on a manual. I have only driven a manual once since school (when trainer's truck was down) so basically I have none beyond school.

Many companies are switching to autos for better fuel economy and maybe for a quicker learning curve for new drivers. I believe with the exception of some special applications most trucks will be autos in a few years and as common as power steering, power brakes etc...

Sorry I "disappeared" this week guys, for some reason I never got notifications about new comments in this thread even though I had it set to notify me.
I've been getting ready for class and have passed my DOT physical & drug test and received my 2 year DOT card. I will do the Knowledge test for my CDL Permit either tomorrow or Tuesday. I know I have to test for general knowledge, airbrakes, and combination. Should I try and get any other endorsements the same day before I get my initial CDL permit, or is it easy to go back and test and have those added later?
I will begin school at the Cartersville GA location Monday Feb 20th, and since I live in metro Atlanta that will be my terminal once I'm on the road. I was told by my recruiter Millis just picked up a Best Buy account in georgia and I could get as many miles as I want driving out of this area. I hope that is true! :)

I appreciate that, and yes I understand there will be a learning curve for me starting out on my own and I will need to build trust with my dispatcher. Every job I've had since graduating High School, starting with the military, I've definitely had the mentality of "always be learning, always be growing". In my opinion if you aren't learning and growing you're dying.
That's one thing I love about this forum already is that by reading the experiences and suggestions from experienced drivers I'm already learning so much.

Sounds like you have the right frame of mind to get off on a positive, successful start.

I personally would only focus on studying for and acquiring the license that you need to get started. Don't cloud your mind with unnecessary information at this point. You can always take those other endorsement tests whenever you want at a later time.

For example I took my tanker endorsement test a few months ago and now have that on my license. I plan on getting the doubles / triples & hazmat at some point. You do not need any of that for Millis. Right now I do not plan on leaving Millis but it's always nice to be ready for any future options that may present themselves.

When I was with my trainer (who was from Georgia) we were put on a seasonal Best Buy account for Christmas. The DC was in Dublin, GA. We ran all over the southeast. Monday - Saturday & off on Sundays. He would go home and I stayed in the truck on the off day. We went as far west as into Alabama, north into Tennessee and South Carolina and south near Tampa and Orlando, Florida. So now it is a permanent gig?
