Every governor I have changed on my trucks was due to cycling abnormally. Fixed it everytime, it would kick on before it needed to and kick off before it needed to. Like the other guy said they are twenty bucks tops unless truckstop if you have never installed one on your truck it's a good item to change and keep your old one just incase. May not be the answer to your problem but definately a no brainier part.
is my air governor going bad?

Most air govenors that fail are caused by the truck being washed with chemicals and it getting in the exhaust port. I always buy an 1/8 vent plug. The reason you want to take the time to find the exact problem and fix it right the first time is that diagnosis by the ripping and tearing method gets expensive.
If you want to do it that way buy a new compressor. a new air dryer, a new governor, a new discharge line, new 1/4 inch air lines new 1/8 to #4 fittings, and just to be sure replace the tail lights.
OR you can use 20 cents of soapy water and 20 minutes of you time.

Actually soapy water and checking for leaks is first on my list and go from there. I took some heat for allegedly throwing parts and money at the front end on my truck.. ..which wasn't the case at all. It's easy to arm chair quarterback things when you really don't have 100% info and not there and also sometimes difficult to make or get points across on the internet. Right now this isn't my first priority but I will get on it soon and do appreciate everyones input.

I change the air dryer cartridge every 6 months .... 2 years seems to long .

The "leak" is at the purge.

Rollin, you could change just the purge valve, but you said it's been two years since you changed the cartridge. On my truck I can get a whole new dryer for just a few dollars more than a cartridge and purge valve. Give fleet pride a call and price a new dryer assembly.

I've never been a fan of rebuilding a dryer. Bolt a new one on and be done with it.....

It's Bendix AD-IP the #### cartridge was $110. I did not replace the old one yet so can take it back. So there should be no air coming out of that purge at all? It tapers off and is not so bad after about 5 minutes when I shut the truck off. With the motor running holding my hand underneath the purge sealing it off with soapy water, it bubbles out, you can feel the pressure of air blowing out continuously until the big purge pops off.
