Oh, they're not screwed with or without me. they're churning out ##### for seats on a weekly basis. Now it may be that they can't find someone closer than me who will do it, but I have no doubt that the number I represent is totally expendable.

I think I'm going to finish out my 6 months and make a more educated move to a better position. It's a shame though, because I rally don't want to Job hop and they seem satisfied with the service I provide. Could be a good thing, but all I can think of is the money I'm throwing away every day. Just one of those things I guess.

Why not talk to your supervisors and see if they can set up a run that will bring you back to the area you live if it’s possible. But if not in all likelihood when they can hire enough drivers in the 50 mile radius they will probably tell you you’re no longer allowed to drive the truck home

You wanted to be home every night.
That's the price you have to pay.

Your lucky you don't have pay your own
Gas to drive back and forth to the yard
Where the truck should be parked.
There actually doing you a favor.

There ain't many local jobs that let you
Take the truck home every day.

Yeah, what you gonna do/what can you do? Any place that hires people with no experience is likely giving you the shaft in some way. If it wasn't this, then it would be something else.

Just stick with it for some experience and then move on when you can. Eat crap while you look for something else.

Long before that happens, I'll be gone. This is a starter company and not where I want to be ultimately. I would have liked to make it a year, and even longer provided the relationship remained mutually beneficial, but it seems to me that is no longer possible.

Yes, I discussed it with my supervisor. His answer was to provide no answer, just a shrug of the shoulders and a "I understand," of course he has been with the company 3 months and so is in no position to really be a source of clarification on the matter. It seems, if I to believe his version of events, that "He rally tried to get me paid for those miles but they said no." So I don't really know what's true, or who is involved- How crazy is that?

My problem is, I guess, that I'm so new to trucking that the idea of not being paid while in a work capacity still bothers me. I still find It amazing what people can get used to and see as "Normal."

So, asking to be paid for the time you drive someones equipment(and are responsible for it) Is wanting something for nothing?

Way I see it, they're basically giving you a vehicle to commute 270 miles a day with. Even assuming a generous 8 MPG that's 33 gallons of fuel a day. At the price I'm seeing for diesel that's over $120/day in fuel they're basically giving you. I mean they can just as easily tell you to leave the truck at the yard and tell you to drive your own car back and forth.

I guess I’m not understanding why you are under the impression you’re working if they are letting you use the truck and paying the fuel for you to go home.Would you feel better if you parked the truck at the yard and drove your own vehicle back and forth and paid your own fuel.im not aware of any job that pays you your commute time to and back to work.why would you expect them to as you posted they were looking for people who live closer enough to drive there vehicle to work.

I recommend you talk to the BA at whatever teamsters local you're near.

They have people that are professional at organizing companies.

You could lead the charge and get your fellow drivers to organize and put a stop to this driver abuse.
