YES, his lips are movingLOL On the serious side this thread is for all the newbies that just talked to a recruiter and they told them "how you can easily make 80000 in your first year of truck driving" This is a lie. Its not a complete lie as Im sure that someone did it and there will be a long story about that, dont wanna hear about it. OK so moving forward, You will probably gross 34000 in your first year as a company driver IF you have a strong work ethic and dont need to be home a lot.
Ok so here is another story " You can lease a truck from the company and have tons of money and own your own truck and live like a rock star" Really? Where do I sign on for that gig? Im an O/O, not a lease to owner and I dont live like a rock star with tons of money. I (and others) worked as a company driver for 3 years before deciding to lease to own from a company. I got screwed and so will you. I ended up getting a truck and trailer financed and its been a lot of hard work (im a flatbedder) and lots of time away from home along with tons of expensive repair bills along the way. I have a truck and trailer in good shape and I have to be very meticulous with the maintenance to keep it that way.
Another story from a recruiter "its easy to learn and easy to drive a truck" again, Really? It is easy to learn for some and theres a lot that truck driving is just not for. If you cant back up a boat trailer or a uhaul trailer or cant drive a stick shift, cant be away from home, had a tough time in the fast food industry, Got drug or alcohol problems, lots of felonies, cant handle driving extended periods of time, etc, etc, etc truck driving may not be the career choice for you. Experienced drivers pease chime in
Is my recruiter lying to me?

After 6 years driving experience and 158 posts, you are asking if your recruiter is lying to you?
Probably. Because you are an easy mark.
Someone with no experience is an even better mark.Lonesome Thanks this. -

Yes I must be an easy mark LOL Did you actually read the whole thing? Sorry for your misunderstanding of my post. I was hoping that either this thread or maybe another one would get started for newbies to read to see if their recruiter was lying to them. There are a lot of folks on this board that have some unrealistic expectaions of the trucking industry. Me personally I dont have the need for a recruiter or a new driving job, Im fine where I'm at but thanks for your concern.

Recruiters make good used car salesmen and vise versa.
They lie so much, they actually believe themselves!Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
Sales people are professional liars. I should know. I sell cars at the moment.

The first 2 responses were interesting.
After a few years you learn just by listening and body language if they are the real deal or not.
I went to an interview for a local gig a few weeks ago. After a couple of minutes found out the advertised starting wage was actually $2 less than what was offered. It would take 2 years to get to the advertised scale. It was a union job. Small shop. You would be doing a lot of the crap runs, holidays, and weekends when needed.
The point when I said I am sorry don't think this is a good fit. Good luck on your search.

well after 10 years of towboating i would love to start into the trucking industry. i drive this boat for 84 hours a week, dont drink or dope up, have dispatchers that dont know their ##### from a hole in the ground. would love to find a good company to start out with, was hoping the wife could ride along, i stay gone for extended amounts of time every month, this trip ill do 50 days before i see home again. do yall have any good advice on which company would be a good start, live in south bama. is werner a good one or not really?

Not really, now that's an opinion some people love it . thats the problem what I like and what you like could be way off. I drove for Swift before I got sick now I'm sidelined and people don't like Swift. Most startup co's pay crap and keep you in so so equipment, but it gets you the experience you need. Good luck in your endeavors.

The Recruiter that called me about my present job just told me what I would make a mile, how much I would get after so long a time. He then told me where to expect orientation, and asked me if this might be something I would be interested in doing. It's been almost 3 months now and I am yet to see anyplace where he lied.
