Im not from that arrea so maybe if somebody were they could get ya hooked up with someone better than werner, if not, a guy has to start somewhere right? I would be looking at everyone in your area that drives a truck and see who they drive for and make some calls to them. There always a small company around that may give a new guy a chance,
Is my recruiter lying to me?

i appreciate the advice guys, western express has a hub less than 5 miles from my home but after reading some of the other threads about them im kinda hesitant, ill be taking quiet a pay drop to pursue this dream and i dont wanna get a rotten taste my first time out. i understand alot of disgrunteled employees can make negative remarks about a company they work for even if it isnt true, our industries arent quiet so different. im reading almost everything i can on the industry to try and better understand everything. i was really suprised to see that truckers can only drive 70 hrs a week. maybe they should look into our industry. we work 6hours on and 6 hours off and make 84 hours a week. hope yall have a safe night tonight and once again thanks for the replies, ricky

My current dispatcher (driver manager, to megas) drove a big truck for 30 years before coming off the road and into the office. Trust me, I listen to him!!Mommas_money_maker and 123456 Thank this. -

U said it buddy! -
very true krooser, but that really comes with any job, i dont get paid for the 9 1/2 hours i drive to get to my job twice a month. i cant transfer closer to home because i got promoted to a bigger boat. im sure the trucking and towing industries have a whole lot of simularities. just as there are some real crappy companies out here. truth be told you have to be passionate about your job or it will drive you insane looking at the negativies. there are ups and downs to changing my proffesion. i will take a significant pay drop. but spend ten years with no cell signal, no seeing people daily, we find it to be a treat to even go into a store and buy a pack of gum. we are very secluded out here also. just ready for a change of scenery

well they do, im actually just kind of tired of the industry, ready for a change. my wife and I are pretty excited about it. i like what i do,just tired of the same old scenery and day to day

If you get tired of the same old scenery you're not gonna like trucking. The highway is just like the waterway same thing. But at least you can stop at a truck stop to pick up a pack of gum.readytotruck84 Thanks this. -
Is towboat the same as tugboat?
In the northeast, I'd love to (and tried to) get in with a tug company. I see them escorting and piloting huge LNG tankers and container ships all the time; it really fascinates me.
Not to mention they make bank around here. Even deckhands on the tugs make $150K. Tug captains make around $300K a year, and a pilot can make even more. Not even ############, those are accurate figures (at least around Boston and NYC/NJ).
