well i work on a towboat , a towboat is a boat that pushes barges, you are talking about a tugboat they assist the ships around harbors and out to see, try to get on with a towboat company if you can or offshore towboat company like hornbeck towing. atleast get to the wheelhouse, if you can get your 1600ton license then it shouldnt be to hard to get on with a tugboat company. if you can do that maybe you can get on the ship pilot board. thats a biscuit train on gravy wheels job you hold a radio tell a few people on the ship how fast and how many degrees to turn, tell the assist tugs when to pull and push. in houston its 350,00 a year in ny im sure its a million or close to it. the towing industry has started recruiting college and maritime grads to become pilots out here now. we get alot of guys out of new york its kinda like a truck driving school but its 4 years and 100,000 and companies dont repay them. or like me you can work your way up to the wheelhouse, a year and half and your eligiable to train in the wheelhouse. its about 104,000 a year as a pilot down here
Is my recruiter lying to me?
