It was once like this "EVERYDAY"!

    But now. . . . . . . :biggrin_25513:

Your blessed to experience what we once took for granted.:biggrin_25514:

OMG, that is soooooo cool!! Sometimes I want to come back to the South, I admit to not being so fond of Texas but that is because of a bad experience I had there. I do love Alabama(northwest Alabama). Oregon just got weird over the years. It was different when I was growing up here:( You would see things just like you described.

I have ALWAYS loved to drive. I still do for that matter.

I think that if a person is single, and basically a "loner," that there would be no greater life. I loved my time OTR.

However, I love my wife more. This is my third marriage, and it has lasted eighteen years. My wife is not willing to go OTR, and in fact, HATES to even ride in a big truck.

So when I got a chance at a local job, I jumped at it. But I always had that urge, particularly when I'd run across a driver I knew from one of my old companies.

I managed to screw myself up physically, to the point that I can no longer drive commercially. Otherwise, I would probably still be running at least on a casual basis for some company or another.

"Is one of your reasons for driving truck....
the constant change everyday and just wanting to be out of "the same thing every day" jobs?"

"It's always been more about the drive than the destination."

"I've just never been the "white, picket fence type".

"It's true I always liked coming home after a long trip. But it's never long before I am ready to go again."

    Thanks NWT

Hi Don, I know it would be different if I were hooked up with a fella:) But after 13 years it doesn't seem that is going to happen. I just want to do my thing. If I meet someone it will probably be another trucker. That way we could go together. If I don't meet anyone, I have a good job that I love. I am optimistic about that. I know that when working for others there are always hard people to deal with but that's just life and it's in all industries. I know since I have worked in almost every industry there is, lol:biggrin_2559:

Glad you and your wife have each other, being alone is ok, and yep, I am a loner for the most part, but having a mate that you click with would be great too:)

Maybe this is just the pessimistic side of me, but this job has as much of the "SSDD" feel that working as a correctional officer did. I do enjoy some times, but I tell ya right now while I am sick as a dog I would rather be home.

I appreciate the wishes NW. To be honest I think each and every one of us sees something a little different about the joys to be experienced out here. I know the one thing I love seeing is a kid riding shotgun or in the backseat pumping his arm up and down. I remember I used to do the same thing as a kid. I also love some of the beautiful horizons I see, and the thrill I get in the mountains knowing any kind of malfunction or error on my part could be the end. I know I am not a lifer our here though, there are parts I will miss, but even more I miss the friends back home and the family being able to see them. Being in the military, being a cop or correctional officer, being a truckdriver they are all something that you either are meant to do or you will never find happiness with them.

I agree, like a separate breed. I agree, it isn't for everyone but neither is brain-surgery. Hmm, now there's something I haven't looked into:biggrin_2559::biggrin_25525:

I was absolutely convinced that I would never get married again. After having two that went down the tubes, I figured I just wasn't "marriage material." I was actually quite happy with my bachelor life.

And then I met the lady that would become the "LOVE of my life." The rest is history.

More than likely, some day when you least expect it, and certainly NOT when you are looking for it, the "right one" will come along. I think this is one of those things that you just can't force.

Oh man, it really sucks to be sick and out on the truck. I hope it isn't too serious, or too long lasting. Where are you right now?

One thing you can do in a truck that you certainly can't do working in a prison or jail, is to "drive away from the A. H. that is bugging you!"

I agree, but I also think a lot of jobs are that way.
