Hello everyone. I am considering a career in truck driving after a long stint in the corporate bs office setting. My job is going away and at age 41 I think getting my CDL would benefit me the most, let's face it, they can't send trucking jobs to India. Not too mention, the market has been flooded with people with bachelors and masters degrees. :biggrin_25516:

Anyway, I am probably going to attend Sage while getting my severance pay. I have been reading this forum and doing research and there are some obvious pros and cons to going OTR. If this is what I have to do I am prepared to put in the time to get the experience. However, I was wondering if anyone knows if this is the only option after completing a school like Sage? Can one get their CDL and still get hired locally without any experience? I have also read about regional jobs, are those better for home time or is that just a way for recruiters to sucker in newbies? I am in Denver CO if that makes any difference. Thanks for your assistance.

I went regional with a smaller company after I got my cdl home weekends and during the week just depends on what's in your area and experience requirements buy the carriers around your home .

That makes sense, I was just hoping that OTR wasn't my only option. Not that I wouldn't mind getting away and seeing the country it just seems like a crap shoot on which of these big carriers to go with if OTR is the choice.

Thanks, I have been looking at Indeed for job reviews for the big carriers. Seems like Covenent, Schneider, and Maverick have the best reviews from former and current drivers.

I will find out next week when I go to the school but does anyone know off hand how long the training at Sage takes?

Look at Roehl too. Done good by me so far. Just another option to add.

No they can't, but they can sure bring the Indians here and put them in the seat that you would have occupied where they will happily work for a meal every other day.

Me and two other Americans are losing our jobs at the biggest cable provider in the country while two Indians in our dept on work visas are keeping their jobs. Same position, same job duties and they probably make more money then we do. They have master degrees to boot. There is no loyalty to working Americans from these corporations.
