at the truck school i went to, there was a shack with like 20 punjabis living behind the office.
they had first dibs on all the trucks and training equipment. the boss even fed them. they were placed into jobs making 250-300 a week cash. i begged for job placement, but he wouldn't do it because i'm mexican. meanwhile all these punjabs got jobs and they probably didn't even have the legal right to work here.
so yes, this is a very real scenario.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up.mje Thanks this.

If you are going to go OTR the just find a OTR training company and get paid for the training. If you find a sweet local/regional job that has fresh coffee and a heated steering wheel then I'd pay for schooling and go there.
-
yeah it's crazy that we give drivers licenses to people who can't legally work here. that's politics
mje Thanks this. -
I considered that as well but didn't want to get stuck in a contract scenario with one of theses companies. I hear they make a lot of promises to new recruits then once they get them hooked they renig.

That's messed up, giving a CDL to a person with a work visa. This country has gone down the toilet is so many ways.
-
it's like indentured servitude. also, if you quit before the first year is up and try to take that license to a different company, it'll go something like this:
recruiter: 'what truck school did you go to?'
"i went to Swift's training academny"
"oh, and doesn't swift require a 1 year contract?"
you: "yeah but i quit, i decided it wasn't for me"
recruiter " sorry it didn't work out too well with swift. and since they paid for your 'schooling', and you quit on them, we think you'll quit on us too, good luck finding employment elsewhere because we're not gonna hire you' -
yeah, every other developed country in the world will give a work visa to doctors, lawyers, accountants, and skilled occupations that you have to actually go to college for. positions that can be filled by common citizens with green cards should stay with citizens only.

That's why an American CDL holder can't work in Canada driving for a Canadian carrier.moloko Thanks this.

Well, do some more research and don't go to a place like that.
